Module 7
Fly fishing fundamentals
Fly fishing isn’t just another way to catch fish — it’s an immersive experience that connects you to the water, the fish, and the environment. Whether you’re a complete beginner or a seasoned angler looking to expand your skills, this module breaks down the fundamentals, from choosing the right gear to selecting and presenting the perfect fly. You’ll gain a clear understanding of why fly fishing is so effective on its day and develop the confidence to apply these skills on the water.
By the end of this module, you’ll have an understanding of how to make a cast, and even have a crack at tying your own flies.
Overview
This module isn’t about waving a fly rod around hoping for the best. It’s about developing an understanding of the different physics and mechanics in fly casting — essentially, what it takes to get your fly in front of a fish in a way that makes them believe it’s real, without looking like you’re battling an invisible dragon. You’ll even get a start on your fly tying journey!
