Module 10
Taking your fishing further
What if your fishing story didn’t end at the water’s edge? This module invites you to imagine a future where your love for fishing ripples outward—into your community, into your career, and into the health of the waterways you treasure. Whether you’re drawn to habitat restoration, youth education, scientific research, or simply giving back to the places that have given you so much joy, volunteering is one of the most rewarding ways to deepen your relationship with the sport.
But we won’t stop there. We’ll also explore the diverse and surprising career paths in the recreational fishing sector—from guiding and hatchery work to fisheries policy, outdoor media, education, and more. If you’ve ever wondered whether fishing could be more than a pastime—something purposeful, impactful, and even professional—this is where you start. Let’s take your fishing further.
Overview
By the end of this module, you will be able to identify a range of volunteering opportunities within the recreational fishing community and understand how these roles contribute to environmental stewardship and social connection. You’ll explore ways to share your passion and skills with others, creating meaningful experiences through education, outreach, and community involvement. Additionally, you’ll gain insight into the diverse career pathways available in the Australian recreational fishing sector, and be encouraged to reflect on how your personal strengths and interests can contribute to the wellbeing of both people and the places we fish.
